11th May-Bob LLoyd Tournament

A silver medal for the U14s
A very warm and sunny afternoon at Llanfairfechan turned into thunder and showers as the girls started brightly with a quick goal from latifa in their first game, a 1-0 win over Llanfairfechan. Then a strange game against Bethel saw us lose 2-0 with a scrappy was it or wasnt it over the line goal and a shot straight from the kick off that caught us totally off guard. Our best performance then followed with a superb 3-0 win over the Panthers with 2 goals from Ella and another from latifa. This meant we had to win our last game against the snow leopards to reach the final, if we didnt we would be in 3v 4 play off game. We lost 1-0 but again not a good goal from our viewpoint. We did play very well though especially in the second half. So a gold or silver medal against the team we had already beaten 3-0. As so often happens the game was tight and a very lucky og saw the Panthers snatch the win, so we had to settle for the silver. A patchy start from the girls to the tournament but very pleased with the later performances even if results didnt go our way.

Wednesday 23rd April

Cup match Glan Conwy 2 v 0 Llanfairfechan (scorers Stephanie Rees, Latifa Avenall)
Another lovely evening and a now bumpy pitch caused the girls some problems in the first half in getting the ball under control. Llanfairfechan were dogged but the game was dominated by Glan conwy.Unfortunately a penalty miss saw us go into half time all square. A much better second half saw a rarity- a headed goal from Stehpanie Rees from a corner, and not only that but very well taken as the ball was going beyond her and she still managed to control and direct it into the net. (Ive just pinched myself and so ill have to say it again)-A HEADED GOAL!. The girls relaxed after this and started to play much better football and Latifa was rewarded for her hard work with a well taken finish. A mention must be made for a superb overall performance from Ellice. well done.

Sunday 20th April

Glan Conwy 2 v 0 Llanfairfechan (scorers Latifa Avenall, Ella Holland)
What a difference a few days can make! The pitch was now very muddy and slippery and conditions underfoot were not good. However the girls made a flying start with a very early goal from latifa and completely dominated the game. Indeed if it wasnt for an excellent performance by the llanfair goalkeeper the score would have been far greater. the game also saw a contender for goal of the season from Ella with a superb shot going in off the post after a great run. A great overall display.

Wednesday 16th April

Glan Conwy 1 v 0 Mochdre Panthers (scorer Stephanie Rees)
after another long break from matches the girls took some time to find their rhythm against a good Mochdre team on a glorious evening at cae ffwt. The game was very tight with the best chances going to Glan Conwy. The first half was a bit scrappy but after the break Glan conwy applied sustained pressure and were rewarded when a fine long range low shot from Stephanie Rees found the net. Well deserved for all the pressure. The match saw Grace Holdens first game for the club against her old team and she made an excellent debut. After the goal we were always in control and a just reward for an excellent second half display.

Sunday 02nd March

Glan Conwy 2 v 4 Bethel (scorers Ella Holland, Ellice Williams)
The first game since the end of November for the U14 girls saw an amazing start with a goal after just 5seconds from Ella which left both sides stunned. Bethel, unbeaten this season came straight back and with Glan sitting back too much applied considerable pressure causing an equaliser. The game was finely balanced when a penalty to Bethel was given a minute before half time. This was duly scored with a ferocious shot that gave Katie in goal no chance. The second half saw a much more determined Glan conwy team camped in the Bethel half forcing numerous corners until a fine shot by Ellice (her first goal)equalled the score. Against the run of play though Bethel scored a third. To the girls credit they stepped up their game and kept serching for the equaliser with latifa going close. However it was not to be and with a minute remaining a sloppy goal gave Bethel the victory. Overall a fine game of football and after a disappointing first half the girls did themsleves proud with an excellent second half performance and the cobwebs, after a long lay off, finally blown away.

Sunday 25th November

Llanfairfechan 0 v 5 Glan Conwy (scorers Ella Holland (2) Stephanie Rees (2) Latifa Avenell)
A fine start from the team saw latifa put us 1-0 up after just 2minutes. We continued to dominate the match and two further goals from Stephanie Rees and one from Ella saw us 4-0 up at half time and totally in control of the game. All areas of the team were playing well with the defence coping with any threats and fine decision making from Katie in goal stopping Llanfairfechan when they did break through. The second half was a little scrappy and we probably should have added more goals than just the one Ella scored. It was however an excellent team performance and thorughly deserved victory. It was very pleasing to see the girls keep calm after a couple of wild challenges and starting to talk more to each other-keep bossing your defence Katie!

Saturday 24th November

Sport Conwy tournament
A interesting 6team tournament with no coaching/shouting etc allowed and points awarded for fair play and deducted for coaching etc. Although only one defeat the rest of our games were drawn as it is so difficult to get fully going in a 10min match. Still all players received a goody bag and hopefully enjoyed the experience of not having me and the parents making lots of noise.

Sunday 18th November

Bethel 3 v 1 Glan Conwy (scorer Ella Holland)
The girls suffered their first defeat of the season on a large and very wet and muddy Bethel pitch. The result was flattering for the home side as we should have gone in at half time ahead instead of 1-0 down as we had good possession and their keeper made some good saves, especially from Stephanie Rees. The second half saw us lose Latifa to a nasty blow to the face causing a very bad nose bleed and then Rachel with a knee injury. The remaining 7 girls performed exceptionally well and from 3-0 down started causing Bethel problems. An excellent run and finish from Ella brought one goal back and a good interception by a Bethel defender prevented Steph possibly setting up a grandstand finish. Despite the result the performance from all the girls was very pleasing with Emily desrving a mention for all her efforts.

Sunday 11th November

Mochdre Panthers 0 v 4 Glan Conwy
(Scorers Stephanie Rees (2) Ella Holland, Latifa Avenall

A later kick off on a slippery pitch after the recent rain saw the U14s get their second win with a excellent display. 1-0 up at half time thanks to Latifas first (and well deserved goal for all her effort) was about the right scoreline. The second half saw powerful mazy runs from both Ella and Steph resulting in excellent goals and indeed they could each have had a few more but for the mochdre keeper. It was good to see the defence keep a clean sheet and when mochdre did get through we had katie in goal to make a few good saves. A good display but we still need to work on supporting each other more (im never happy am I)

Sunday 21st October

Glan conwy 2 vs 1 Colwyn Bay
(scorers Ella Holland (2))

The girls first game of the season was played out in warm sunny conditions and saw an excellent performance result in a win against last years champions. Glan conwy dominated the the first half and went in 1-0 thanks to a tremendous goal from Ella. She repeated the feat just after half time to put us 2-0 up. All the team were working hard for each other and we loooked comfortable in all areas with good debuts from Latifa, Tara and Anna. We lapsed a little in the second period when Holly for Colwyn bay came out of goal and allowed them to come at us a bit to much resulting in a goal for Colwyn bay. However besides this they did not trouble katie in goal further and we finished the stronger team. Well done to you all. Up to menu
